Pls dun call 995 if...


  1. You are stressed.
  2. You got drunk, scratched your nose and caused it to bleed.
Ok, I'm going to bitch. Allow me to illustrate a case...

20+ year old male, epistaxis, activated emergency medical service at 4am. On arrival, patient alert, well and sitting up. Alcohol breath and slurred speech noted. Erythema on nose bridge and dried blood on fingers. Defensive when asked about history and asked to see the discharge. Unable to show us the discharge. Claims bleeding torrentially just now, from one nostril. On further questioning, unwillingly revealed that he had scratched his nose. Refused gauze to clean up blood. Refused stretcher. Claims he has history of HTN. Kept asking BP. Told that BP is normal. Asked again on ambulance. Told that BP is normal. Asked again in A&E. Told that BP is normal. Bloody rude to us. Bloody rude to staff nurse at TTSH A&E.

Seriously. At 4am in the morning, u dunno to be amused or pissed off.

Another not so eventful ambulance run.. The most exciting thing that I did was probably to set a plug on an elderly man with coffee grounds hematemesis at 80km/h..
