Black, White & Gray

This is how we often like to see things:

People in general like to give definitions to things. Black and white; good and bad; right and wrong; guilty and innocent; hot and cold; clever and stupid; happy and sad; tall and short. We like to define because it makes things easier to classify, quantify and analyse.

A perhaps more enlightened view of the world around us would be like this:

Because many, if not all events that happen around us cannot be clearly separated into 2 extremes, hence we acknowledge the existence of the "gray area". A spectrum thus appears between the 2 poles.

Finally, in nature, we observe the following pattern:

Definitions and meanings created by Man have no significance in nature. 'Black' or 'white' are merely words created for ease of communication and classification. You can call a 'black' object 'white' - it makes no difference. Definitions and classifications are not inherent to nature. In nature, extremes are not tolerated - there is only balance. In any event that balance is disrupted, the environment will attempt to correct the fault. Thus, it can be observed that particles diffuse from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration; higher energy objects/regions will transfer energy to lower energy objects/regions (eg. thermal transfer); all physiological systems work on the fundamentals of negative feedback; any substance in excess will be toxic to the body; any deficit substance that the body requires will result in death.

Quote

An imperfect quotation from the english subtitles of (almost) everyone's fav tv serial:

"When the will is weak, the smallest obstacle will seem like a mountain.
But when the will is strong, the greatest storm will seem like a breeze.
You must become the mountain; you must become the storm!"

I'm sorry

I guess I was already unhappy with certain things, and the event last night was just the last straw that caused me to snap. So I took it out upon my friends who happen to be in the line of fire. I phrased my sentences with the intention to hurt, and I am not proud of that. And for that I apologise. I'm sorry...

*Takes a deep bow*

Last minute

Ok. I'm pissed. This isn't going to be a nice post.

Reason: I'm sick and tired of people giving me last minute shit. Biomed training nxt morning, wait till night then ask me whether the next day got notes. Biomed training nxt morning cancelled, evening then tell me. Cannot teach biomed tml, 12am tell me. Outing tml cancel, 1145pm then tell me.

You all think photocopying shop open like 7-eleven? You all think ppl on 24 hour standby to do things for you? You all think I dun sleep to wait for messages on my phone? Or you think I have telepathic abilities? Can instanteously notify the whole network about last minute changes? Do you all noe how many times the jnrs would not have notes for their lessons if I haven pre-empted you all and told ryan to print the notes first?

I am human ppl.

Describe 3
My lao pa. 23 pairs of chromosomes. Genotype: XY. Phenotype: a bit shorter than me. A bit darker than me. Has a bit of belly. Doesn't say much. Even to us. But dun get me wrong: doesn't say much doesn't equate to a stern fatherly figure....cos sometimes he can be quite crappy, funny and exasperating. I think sometimes he is too 老实 (as in too nice guy). I dun think much of his singing(=P I'm sorry). I think he looks younger than he actually is.

Do you think 8 is attractive?
Wijaya? Of cos! He can dance, he can sing, he can draw and he is a combat clerk with 4 A level distinctions! What more can you ask for?

Tell me something about 7.
QY? I think he is a very up guy who is motivated and passionate. (ok that was 3 things: up, motivated and passionate)

Do you know any of 12's family?

Beta bytes

Below are some screenshots of the beta versions of upcoming programs...

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2

New interface. Most notable is the addition the tabbed browsing feature (like Firefox and Netscape). The interface doesn't look too aesthetically pleasing to me. Whether the new security features work will probably only be known when this version is released to the public. (regarding the screenshot, I blurred the product-key...juz in case)

MSN Messenger 8 Beta 3 (aka Windows Live Messenger)

Again new interface. MSN 8 looks much sleeker and shinier. It even sounds more elegant. The alert sound when somebody signs in is now a gentle tinkle instead of a obstrusive "deng!". But perhaps the most overdue feature is the ability to talk to ur contacts while appearing offline. Juz in case u are wondering how in the world am I talking to u while appearing offline...

Failed...

my driving test...

Made it out of the circuit relatively unscathed, but screwed up majorly in the safety checks department on the road...fail to check blind spot, fail to check rear view mirror...blah blah

Near the end of the test, when I was changing lanes to make a U-turn, noticed a car behind (on the right). Tot that he would slow down to let me pass after looking at the double L-plates on the back of my car, but he accelerated instead...cost me a hefty 10points (8 for the evasive action thingy, 2 for failing to check blind spot...)

Advice to aspiring drivers...wayang a bit, turn ur head more to let the tester noe u r checking...

Time-wasting

Here's a post dedicated to frens who are currently stoning at home because of the looooong break...below are some suggestions to waste ur time efficiently...

TV!!!
Weekdays, 6.00pm, Kids Central, Gundam Seed. Ok this is dunno the n-th repeat on TV liao, but if u missed it b4, can watch.

Weekdays, 7.00pm, Ch8, there is Bao Lian Deng. Not say the acting and the special effects very good lar, but it is based on famous chinese mythology (although the script is heavily edited i think). So still quite watchable. Eat dinner and watch at the same time.

Weekdays, 10.00pm, ChU. Da Chang Jin!!!! Enuff said.

Mondays, 11.00pm, Ch5. Grey's Anatomy!!!! Watching the show and understanding the medical jargon they are talking give me cheap thrill...haha And sometimes damn funny oso.

Wednesday to Friday, 11pm, Central. Anime - Witchhunter Robin. Interesting story. Nice artwork. But wad I really wan to recommend is the following show...Desert Punk at 1130pm...haha...a hilarous anime with Stephen Chow type jokes...of cus sometimes the jokes can be downright xia liu...so not everyone subscribes to that kind of humour...but for me, it makes me laff like mad...haha

Sundays, 11am, Kids Central, Gundam Seed Destiny. The sequel to Gundam Seed. Not sure if this a repeat, but its a nice anime.

Computer games
Dun have the cutting edge technology to enjoy the latest games...but here are some games I've been playing recently to waste my time..

Civilizations IV. Raise ur empire from scratch. Watch it grow as centuries go by, from a barbarian tribe to a advanced global power. Dominate ur opponents by force, or force them to submit to your superior culture. Forge alliances, trade...etc...May require an up to date video card to run smoothly

Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords. A turn-based strategy game like Civilizations, but the similarities end here. In GCII u colonize planets and star systems instead of continents. And the best thing about this game is it lets u design ur own starship. Yes, u can customise ur own ships, giving it wadever engine, weapon, shield, modules and aesthetic look u want. There is something very shiok about commanding ur very own self-designed fleets to conquer other planets.

Chrono Trigger. This game was released in 1995. It runs on the Super Nintendo system (SNES), so you'll nid an emulator to run it on the PC. Dun think its crappy because of its age. In fact this game has a legendary status among the ranks of RPGs. It is also probably the best game that was released for the SNES. Nice plot, nice gameplay, nice soundtrack, and decent graphics. Warning: very addictive.

Phew. Wad a long post...shall come up with more time wasters to post...But that's all for now...

Prophetic Dreams?

In the world of awakeness, I hardly give thought to this coming thursday, when the results are to be released. However, on a sub-conscious level, I'm probably worrying about it...

Some night last week, I dreamt that I kena Biochem supp-paper...few days ago I dreamt that I received lousy grades for my physio (probably becos they tot my viva sucked)...

During the platoon outing last week, a friend happened to show me the horoscope page on i-weekly. I usually dun believe in this kind of thing, but the thing said that the thing I'm hoping for will not come true on thursday. This thursday.

Creepy huh? An ominous sign perhaps.
